Nile started out his music career in bands in school way back in the early 80's, so has
been in music for along time.. :-) ( yes he is THAT old) BUT still mixes with the best!
Having had plenty of residencies in town center bars & clubs to his name..
He floated around in bands as a bass player for 20 years - before finally forging a career as a singer, which he only gave up as a professional 5 years ago after years travelling around the country playing venues.
However Nile always had an interest in djing from dabbling in the late 80's.
So when the opportunity came 15 years or so ago to do so, he took hold of it with both hands.Nile ran a regular spot every Friday in scarborough town centre eventually named ' funky fridays' He built up a clientelle of dance / trance and clubland music followers, playing things a little off centre to the rest at a time, when Scarborough was ' cheesey music' central - with chart remixes, old skool classics and bangin clubland snuck in where he
could. Being a singer and entertainer made a difference to the shows and it wasn't unknown for Nile to come out from behind the stand to big up the crowd and sing a rendition of dance classics such as pretty green eyes and such classics.
Unfortunately times change and with the recession Fridays in general started to become less busy - and the boss of the pub didn't like Nile's music much preferring the cheese option, so with the tills not ringing like they used too - Nile was replaced after 2 years of running the night for a soul and cheese night..( which fell on its ass! :-) )
After that Nile mainly tinkered with mixes, banging them up on facebook via mixcrate.com, soundcloud & mixcloud. And doing the odd mobile disco job alongside his singing work.
A chat in the hairdressers one day came up with the idea of doing online radio and a few applications and mixes submitted later- Nile did his first online dj show mixing up dance /trance / and even d n b to the masses on Addiction Radio Via Facebook & Ustream. But all things come to a close and Addiction ceased to be.
A post from the excellent Mr Dave Beeson ( the pier nightclub) guided Nile to MonkeyRadio.co.uk, where he took a show every Sunday from 8.30pm till 10.30pm - which grew to having a few hundred plus listeners over 20 plus weeks he did it... :-) Not bad from nothing. unfortunately monkey radio also ceased to be.
Nile then DJ'd every Thursday & Friday for a year at Beez Bar in Whitby banging out the big choons.... :-) With his singing work mainly on a saturday with the odd DJ session.
This also ceased to be – as the owner sacked all the dj's for an in house touch screen music system.. :-/ . incidentally this was the beginning of the end for Beez, which no longer exists. Moving on a bit dejected - but not disheartened - Nile continued doing mixes and looking for work. And has landed parties at Soba Bar - Djing bi-weekly at Mist bar and then gaining the Friday feelgood Fridays residency at the Tuns, banging out what has now become his hallmark and random mix of chart remixes / mashups / old skool classics / trance & house.
Nile then went on to be a resident at the now closed Boleyns nightclub in Scarborough and also at Blue Lounge in Scarborough too. Boleyns Closed and Blue Lounge sacked all it’s dj’s and employed an agency to supply them instead.
With the appearance of Radio Scarborough, Niley started again on Radio. With his dance anthems show on a Thursday. Djing , mixing and presenting live to the world. As usual the mix of dance, trance, classics, new, and playing submitted specialist mixes from dj's like Pianoman and Darren Styles, along with Niles upbeat personality of course. A year later and as happens with these things. Internal politics and too many personalities, Nile left Radio Scarborough.
Again the wilderness called. But Niley kept his hand in with people tracking him down and asking him to do various events in his inimitable style.
A Chat with a friend led to the creation of 2bays radio. This built up very quickly with a myriad of shows covering all genres, but of course including Niley B's Dance Anthems.
After a chat with Richard Pearson Niley returned to the Radio Scarborough Fold , helping out with Scheduling on the NEW Radio Scarborough station and assisting them while they get their community FM licence in place. Currently R.S repeat Niles old Radio Scarborough shows ' from the archives'
Recent events have led to Nile taking on the role as Station Manager here at Radio Scarborough. To get things ready for the forthcoming FM licence.
Nile is currently having a hiatus from djing and just concentrating on running the station.
But like all superstars.. he will , of course, be back
